quick and easy. i couldn’t remember my dog’s microchip number, and i kept forgetting to ask the vet.

Beeps while charging, cannot turn off. Doesn’t scan any of my 5 cats (ISO chips)
Unable to detect any of my 5 cats’ microchips, even when touching their skin (and I know where they were implanted).While charging, the unit beeps every minute or so. The button supposedly turns the unit off, but does nothing while charging. The beeping is incessant and annoying. It also scares my cats.The battery arrived completely dead, so there was no opportunity to test it out without first charging it. The charge cycle is quite slow.My cats have standard ISO microchips, not Avid or any other unusual format. I don’t know why they would be unreadable.There is only one button but it does not appear to do anything. It doesn’t turn the unit off when held, and doesn’t appear to activate the unit for scanning. The scanner simply cycles on its own, attempting to detect microchips automatically. This is finicky and not user-friendly.

Read both my dogs chips within seconds. Worked on my dogs HomeAgain microchip and AKC Reunite microchip. The beep is relatively quiet. Good to check to make sure microchip is still in place

As soon as I came within a few inches of our cats’ necks, this reader instantly read the codes from their microchips.The display (albeit small) was very clear and easy to read (even for my old eyes).The only potential issue: you need to be pretty quick to scribble down the number (or take a quick photo of it). If the display times-out (goes dark), you need to re-scan the chip… the data gets zeroed-out when you turn it back on. This was only a minor inconvenience for me – not enough to dock a star from my rating. (Let’s call this review a 4.6).Happy with this purchase.
