When you need a little stability
First thing – check your sizing carefully. The size chart isn’t bad, but body type could affect the fit. If you need one now, as in the case of an injury, get two sizes and return one if you have to. This is a great product for my needs, just don’t be me when selecting the size. That said, this was very helpful when my boy tore his knee and I wish I’d already had it ready to go. I was surprised at the weight at first, but found it was primarily from the three point strap used to connect to a front harness. I’ll get back to that. Without that it is fairly light weight but feels durable. It is a canvas type material with typical web straps, mostly padded. The sizing was OK but again, is also subject to body type. I ordered according to both measurement and weight range. It worked but if I hadn’t needed it right then may have exchanged for the next size down. No real cons or criticisms, but here are things to keep in mind.It always seemed the leg straps could be a little tighter but the padded sleeve wouldn’t allow any more shortening. But I really liked the padding on the leg straps, so again it will just depend on your dog and the reason or frequency of use. My main use was the handle to add stability on uneven ground, take a little weight off when he did his business, and give a little lift when hopping a small step into the house. The padding on the leg straps always looked a bit bulky but it gives and didn’t get in the way of nature’s call. It didn’t affect his walk/hop and he largely ignored the whole thing. He often ignores me too though, and just isn’t phased by much.Which brings me to the next point. If you’re looking at this, you probably already need it. It can be difficult to get adjusted so find somebody to help if your dog can’t stand for long.Oh, and it’s not the type that can be left on all day. I did find myself wishing it could to help him stand up, but he was usually half way up before I could get to him anyway. Once adjusted and you’re familiar with thw clasps, it doesn’t really take much longer than a regular front harness. If you’re looking at this because you see a future need, don’t wait. Get it adjusted and let your dog get used to it, especially if they’re not as nonchalant as mine.Back to the removable straps. The heavy piece is just another adjustable web strap that has a metal clip on each end and one in the middle. The weight came from the clips which, in my opinion, were much bigger than necessary. The clips are metal, which is certainly durable, but very large. My understanding is that the whole thing was meant to attach the harness to a front harness. With no real weight bearing, it seems to add alot of weight and I didn’t like the idea of something hard bouncing against his back. Again, this was an injury so he was hopping. It may not be an issue for a dog that’s getting weak or unstable but not limping. However, the harness will slide off without another attachment. I have a male so initially used the belly strap. This was a great idea in that it is a rigid (but padded) strap molded with a curve so as to not put pressure on boy parts. It held the harness on without the three point strap, but I found it was a tad too big both in length and width. Another sizing vs. body type consideration. I still think it’s a great idea though. It would be nice if there was a regular soft strap for females included or as an option because it will slide off without it.In the end, I improvised using a small camera bag strap that had plastic clips at the ends and added a small metal clip from a lanyard to the middle. The ends attached to the harness with the middle clip attached to his own front harness. That’s all it took to keep it from sliding off.All that said, my modifications were due to probably getting the wrong size, but the harness itself works great. Glad I have it now just in case and don’t see any reason to look for something else.

It’s a good item but I had to take the plastic part …
It’s a good item but I had to take the plastic part out that is under the belly strap and took off the other straps and just the whole part that goes around the belly and back. The straps that go through the legs were a bit small and not enough Slack to adjust to the length I’ve needed. I have a rottie mix and his 92 pounds. It’s good at helping him get up and to hold his balance as I help him move around. I’ve yet to try the steps with him… just to get off floor… other then that it should be able to get him up more with ease instead of struggling to pull himself up on his own… all in all it’s ok for the most part. Might be better for a smaller dog or medium size for the large size harness !

Adjustability better than most!
I have a 14.5 year old American Pit Bull Terrier with limited back leg use due to old ACL injuries. She’s also been struggling with urinary incontinence most of her life and needs to wear diapers.Because of her breed’s build, it’s difficult to find something that fits her body type and adjustability is very important. With her age and limited mobility, she is a lot thinner but I’m still finding it difficult to find a good fit for her. I have a “Walkabout” neoprene lift harness that is amazing in many ways, but it never quite fit properly. The leg holes fit, but I could never get the waist piece small enough. A smaller size would fit her waist, but there’s no way she could get her thighs in them. That one is meant to be worn most of the time and it is very comfortable. It also has a long, padded strap so you can go for walks or just to potty with them and you get to stand up straight. It is still usable, but she’s lost more weight and now the waist strap is just huge, I’m trying to make it work by shoving towels in it, but now it slips off of her all the time, she’s peeing on it, and it’s just too much for constant use.Decided to find another one that was more adjustable and possibly easier to get on and off. (Walkabout is step-in style and that’s hard when your dog can’t really stand.)According to the weight range, she’s a Medium. She’s 45 pounds. I knew she was at the bottom end of the Medium’s weight range. Her waist is 19-20 inches. Our problem is usually that she has to go with the larger size if she’s on the fence between with her body shape. This time though, I think she could have gone with the small. I saw the pic of of a dachshund wearing the small and thought, “No way will that fit my pittie.” I may order the small to see if the fit is better, but the medium may still work. The strap that can attach to a harness is awesome – I have it attached to her regular harness that has a ring between her shoulders. It really does keep it on. Without it, it would fall off my dog right away. I had to adjust it to the smallest possible size and it’s still a bit loose, but usable and it still keeps it on her so that’s a win.The belly strap is too big, I have it at the smallest setting and it’s just huge on her. Without the harness strap, there is no way this would stay on her waist. I removed the hard panel for males (it’s a Velcro pocket) and kept the strap buckled in because I want her waist to help supporr when lifting. The legs – incredible adjustability!! It could go quite small if it had to. I didn’t have to make them much smaller though, so I would be a little hesitant about this fitting dogs up to 70lbs. There’s the issue I have – the rest of it is too big but the legs fit and I didn’t have to make them much smaller. I don’t know that a Small could accommodate her thighs. My dog seems to like this lift better than the much bulkier Walkabout, even though the Walkabout seems a lot more comfortable. A lot less stuff between her legs and hanging over her.She can pee and poop outside without getting any on the lift. Diaper changes are a lot easier.I put it on her while she was laying down, making it a lot easier to take it off at night and be able to put it back on her without having to lift her myself.Very pleased even with a little fit difficulties. It still lifts her, she seems comfortable with it. I do wish it had a longer handle or even a ring to attach a leash to in order to stand up straight. I’ll probably loop my leash around it for that.I’ll update if I purchase the Small.

My 12 1/2 year old boxer/Rottweiler cross suffered some seizures. While she is adjusting to her seizure medication one of the side effects is that she lost complete control over her back legs. She weighs 90 pounds and it was extremely hard to get her up and outside to go to the washroom. With the use of this back end harness it made our lives so much easier. It also made my dogs life so much easier. I once she was more sturdy on her feet after a few weeks, I was able to takeoff the leg straps and just keep the belly strap in case I needed to grab her and sturdy her.
