NUTRO Limited Ingredient Diet Adult Dry Dog Food Lamb & Sweet Potato Dog Kibble, 4 lb. Bag

The big thing: TRULY chicken free
We had our dogs on Nutro’s regular lamb & rice and our one adopted pit mix had skin so dry that a single scratch sent dandruff flying like a blizzard. Within a few weeks of transitioning them over to this food, his skin is clear and his coat is softer and shinier. (I figure this is due to his natural oils having a chance to properly distribute through his fur now that the skin is healthier.)It also seem like he has less gastrointestinal upset, less frequent farts (which were NOXIOUS), he hasn’t thrown up recently (a fairly frequent occurrence) and isn’t eating as much grass/plants in the yard. Both dogs have firmer poop as well; the aforementioned dog frequently had “soft serve” consistency. 😬Nutro’s regular Lamb and Brown Rice has “chicken meal” as the second ingredient. I think this is the allergy my dog has, rather than anything grain-related..I really wish Nutro’s non-chicken foods were TRULY chicken-free since this seemingly is a common allergy for dogs and honestly it kinda stinks to pay the high cost for “grain-free” when it’s not the issue.Regardless, I’m really glad that he’s both looking & feeling better! We’ll be continuing with this food (EDIT: happy to say we can now get this from Amazon at the normal price, regularly! Which is great, since Chewy has sent us the wrong food several times.)

Must be truly limited ingredients!!
I gave this product 5 stars for flavor only because this is the only food my dog is NOT allergic to!! I have no idea on how it tastes! (Haha)My dog is allergic to chicken and red dye.The thing about chicken, almost every label is able to tell you if chicken is present. What no one tells you about red dye, is if its less then 2% (or maybe its 4%, I can never remember) companies dont have to put it on the food label. Rachel Ray-which is the brand we tried before this is how we found this out! Our poor pooch was suffering even more because red dye was not listed on the label!!I can honestly say Nutro limited ingredient does NOT have red dye or chicken in it!! As our pup is back to feeling better! No ear aches or itchy paws!!Its slightly expensive. But so are the vet bills from buying cheaper food with a less than honest label. I love the convenience of having it delivered as I always forget to buy it when my husband is in the car with me!!!Update.Our dog had a heart attack and died, 03-26-21, he was a healthy 11 y.o. bulldog, 11 y.o. is old for a bulldog yes, but he was vet check healthy.during the grieving process, I found medical research from the FDA that grain free food causes canine cardiomyopathy!!!Please be aware of this!! The research is fairly new! (2018 started the research of it) and because some breeds, aka bulldogs, have health problems to begin with, the canine cardiomyopathy is not diagnosed from the grain free food!!!

Reccommend for protein source in homemade rat mixes!
I have fancy rats and wanted to make my own mix based on the renowned Shunamite diet instead of relying solely on lab block- with the first ingredient being Salmon, this kibble works great as the protein source in my mix! It also has the benefit of being grain free (no wheat, which is helpful if you have bucks, since it’s harder on the kidneys) as well as being enriched, so I don’t need to use additional vitamin supplements. It’s also small-bite, good for little rat hands, and the bag is small enough that you don’t feel wasteful only using a few scoops in each mix. I might be the only reviewer not buying this for their dog, but if you’re looking for protein options for homemade rat mixes, definitely consider this!

Venison for Skin Issues
I tried this dog food after my vet told me that my dog was probably allergic to the beef food I was feeding him. He had developed a severe rash all over his body. She told me venison and bison are the least allergenic foods for dogs. After only one week on this food and some supplements his skin started to clear up. Now, after a month. his skin and coat have completely cleared up and he is just as beautiful as he was before. I highly recommend this food, especially if you are dealing with some kind of allergy. I used this food in conjunction with Missing Link supplement, a probiotic, and salmon oil. It worked wonders.
