R. Cane Questions –
worthy harness, tru-fittedness could improve
I now own two of these: one for a ~50 lb dog, one for a ~110 lb dog. both are effective, go on easily, and are well made. tugging and other forms of undesirable behavior have certainly gone down since using them. For the larger dog, this is a replacement for a more padded harness which was probably better made yet, but did not go on or (particularly) off easily.Nonetheless, there are some changes the manufacturer could make to improve the harness:1. offer it in a color other than black. when I’m looking for the right harness in the morning, it’s hard to distinguish black from black, or to read L vs. XL with my bleary eyes. end of the world? hardly. but it would be a nice enhancement.2. while the harness adjusts in more dimensions than most other harnesses I’ve tried, it’s still not completely responsive to different dog architectures. for example, the larger dog is a St Bernard, with a wide head and ears. the correct setting of the front straps to go comfortably over her head does not match the correct setting to stay tight against her chest. adjusting the chest straps while it’s on her is tough. a suggested improvement would be a simpler and faster way to tighten and loosen the front for getting it on her and then tightening it up for walking. the snap along the chest protector does make that tightening better, but the binary choice of shorter/longer is insufficient. perhaps some type of easier slider on the front straps, akin to the tightening mechanism on a backpack, would be good.3. the same for the smaller dog, who is a Cattle Dog, and therefore somewhat differently shaped from a Saint. there’s essentially no issue getting the harness over her head, but finding a setting where the chest plate clings tightly enough is tough. it can’t get any shorter than it is.4. finally, the carabiner at the end of the car harness is a great idea. of the four different car brands where I’ve tried to use it as recommended, however, none has a seatbelt buckle narrow enough to fit. using the carabiner as a carabiner is hard on arthritic hands. as a way of anchoring the dog comfortably, the solution is fine. if the kit came with a seat-belt lock it would save the bother of having to buy one after you discover there’s no real anchor — unless, of course, you have recently stopped using kids’ car seats and have extras on hand.

5 years later
This harness has been through thick and thin with my dog. Iâve used it almost daily for the past 5+ years for walks and car rides. The only possible complaint I could have about it is that Iâll never be able to get all the white dog hair cleaned off of it. Thereâs really not a stitch out of place after so much use, easy to get over his head, and while luckily the crash rates performance has not been tested, it has stood up well in car rides.I originally thought this might be a little much to spend on a harness when there are so many options under $20 on Amazon, but this has really earned its price tag and I have no plans to replace anytime soon.

Pretty neat, might replace ONE part.
Only complaint with this is that on both of my dogs, if they don’t sit perfectly still like the dog in the picture, the chest strap can migrate and push on their shoulders. They get excited and try to lean out of my windows, which is why I bought these, and they keep my dogs in place… But the strap thing bugs me, I feel like as a whiny person, it would make me uncomfortable and I know I am just projecting this onto my dogs…I have a 60 pound Border Collie and 90 pound GSD, if anyone is wondering “Will this fit MY dog?”It does fit very well, and I like how easy it is to adjust. The straps are VERY well made and they’re designed so that you don’t have to worry about it all falling apart, even if you leave it all unhooked and strewn across the backseat, as I do. The large fit both of my dogs perfectly, and I’m sure they could care less about the chest strap thing, I’m just picky. This is the best way I have found to hook them in; I had a standard walking harness I would use with my behind/over the seat hooks and their leashes, but it just wasn’t sturdy enough and often they’d lean further out the window than I liked…These are great, and I like that they come with their little seat belt attachments. I feel like these could be a little bit better, because my dogs tend to sit on them and pull themselves down, BUT they came with the harness and they do what they are meant to.

Versatile, well constructed harness. Will be looking for other Kurgo products in the future.
My only requirement was a harness that didn’t require the dog to step into it. This harness not only fulfilled that requirement, but I’m very pleased with how versatile it actually is.The piece that goes from the neck to the back strap is actually two straps. Itâs perfect for the dog park: when she misbehaves (she is getting better!) those straps create an easy-to-grab handle. The seatbelt tether that comes with it is a real bonus. She was clearly not used to riding in cars and doesnât do well in the backseat, but with the tether I can easily secure her safely in the front seat next to me. The long tether handle slides over both straps of the seat belt and you fasten the belt as you normally would. The D-ring on the tether clips nicely to the back of the harness. Unlike a lot of other dog seatbelt systems Iâve seen, the Kurgo does not require a different product once out of the car. Just unclip the tether and clip on the leash and you are ready to go. Unless I have a human passenger, I can just keep the tether on the closed seatbelt all the time.My dog is deep-chested and at first I was concerned that the back strap that fits over the largest part of her chest would be problematic because it does slip forward. Actually, Iâm kind of glad because then I know itâs not too tight and restraining for her. And it doesnât slip so far forward that it is a problem. This harness doesnât seem to restrict or restrain her movements in any way; she regularly turns on the afterburners at the dog park. The construction seems to be of very good quality and quite durable, I expect this product to be very long lasting. Iâm more than pleased with the purchase and price point. I would have expected to have had to pay more for such a well-constructed and versatile item. I will definitely be looking at other Kurgo products first for future purchases.

This harness is supposed to stop our dog who is a puller to stop pulling when walking. It sort of does but does not stay in position but will twist to the right or left depending on which side the leash is on. Also we had to put moleskin over some of the joins as the cord used to put it together poked him and caused a sore.
