Perfect for my need
My dog blew out his knee and needed surgery. He couldn’t climb steps for many weeks post op. Well we live in a house with stairs at every entrance. This harness allowed us to get him in and out whenever we needed, just by lifting his hind end. We did practice with him for about a week before the operation so it wasn’t another new thing to get used to when he was hurting. Yes, the hind sling does cover a significant area of dog and if you have a male you need to get it off before he urinates. Fortunately it unsnaps quickly and easily. The front part of the harness has a ring, roughly at the top of the front leg spot, to attach the 2 pieces together. There is another ring approximately over the shoulder that I preferred to use, it felt like I had more control over the dog using that configuration. The size did appear to run large. Originally I ordered an XXL and sent it back for an XL. Hope this helped.

Would be great for a paralyzed pet.
I think this is a great idea. My dog is having problems walking due to disk problems in his back. I purchased this thinking it would make his life a little easier. Unforutneately he is a very independent little dog and refused to accept any help. I decided to return it but I think it would work wonderful for a paralyzed.pet.

This product really disappointed. I ordered the large for my elderly black lab, and the front part wasn’t even close. Way too small. It’s fabric is flimsy and I can’t use any of it.

My 55 pound senior dog has hind quarter weakness due to Cushing’s Disease and we have to go up/down a flight of stairs to enter/exit our home. I was very concerned about her falling down the stairs and she often has difficulty climbing them. Carrying her is not a viable option – so I began using her regular nylon walking harness like a “suitcase handle” to assist her. This was not ideal as the harness cut into her chest and under her front legs. I then purchased a “sling” for the task. While a good idea – it always slid from her midsection to under her hips while going down the stairs, which was rather dangerous as there was no support for the rest of her body.I finally tried the Guardian Gear harness – and it does the job. The item comes with 2 pieces – the harness, and a rear support pad with a leash/tether attached to it. I have not used the rear support pad with the leash, but the harness is adequately padded underneath (chest) and lends great support for her body while ascending/descending the stairs. I grab the top of the harness like a suitcase handle and off we go without the fear of her falling up/down the stairs. Outside, I let the “handle” go and she can romp unencumbered.The only drawback I have encountered so far, is that the padded (chest) portion of the harness just does not lay flat up against the dog when the dog is in a “sit” position. This causes a “gap” or droop in the harness so if she lifts her paw for an under arm scratch – it very often ends up inside the chest portion of the harness when she puts the paw down. I have tried re-adjusting the harness and it is nice and snug when standing, but it still gaps while sitting. This could be a result of my dog’s particular body structure (she’s a squat/short/ thick-necked pit bull built like a boat anchor), or an inherent flaw in the design.In any event, it is still the best support harness I have found thus far. It does the job, and I am generally pleased with it. By the way – Amazon had the best price for the harness I could find online.

EXCELLENT ITEM!!!!
I have large 15 year old collie shephard mix who has a very bad hind leg. Sometimes it does not support him at all and because he has a hard time lifting it, he drags it scratching the top of his nails. I have tried many expensive slings and other types of leashes where the back end would be supported in a comfortable way but none worked for me in the way that this did. My dog is a male, this can be positioned so he can “Tinkle” and not have it get in the way, (its also washable and dries fast). The pieces that support the dog are padded so they do not dig into his skin, its easy to put on and take off. You do not break your back trying to support your dog, the straps are long enough to stand straight when you walk with him or her and the design makes it easy to guide your dog in the right direction. Last, you can remove the back part and just use the front halter which is nice and strong when your dog does not need to be supported any longer. For me, I think my dog will always need it but thank God for this because now we can go for walks and he can do his numbers while I support his weight and he is a large dog, this leash is just so good for us. On top of that it looks so cute on him! I had to order another one because a large was a drop to tight for him but I still use it and will probably use both when my XL gets here.

The front of the harness fit, but the back portion was way to big, beyond adjustability. This was the large size , and I had just exchanged the medium for it. In the medium the back fit but the front was too small. The harness was well constructed though.

A Lifesaver !
This product has been a lifesaver for my 16 year old grayhound mix. She has arthritis in her back and hind legs, but wants to come upstairs to sleep with the family at night; she can make it up with some struggle, but coming down in the morning terrified her; she had trouble seeing the stairs as well, and slid partway down more than once. She is 50 lb and a little too heavy for me to carry, so I bought this harness which fits around her forelegs and back. It allows me to hold on and ease her down the stairs without the fear of falling. Other products I tried fit around her middle, but she slid forward no matter how tightly it was fastened, and had to be picked up completely. This works perfectly for our needs, and has improved her quality of life (and mine!) considerably. I’d give more than 5 stars if I could, and we don’t even use the back part of this harness. Just the front piece is all we need.

This nylon lift and sling is complicated to use and the sling part too narrow. The plastic clips to secure the sling can break easily if you are not careful.
