Littermate Pups Born 7/13/2003
Ginger was adopted with her brother Wilson at 8 weeks old. 2 months later, we noticed Ginger was struggling to keep up with Wilson.

Over the next several weeks, Ginger increasingly struggled going up the stairs, and began “bunny hopping” up the steps.
After visiting with a veterinary specialist, we were heartbroken to hear this little puppy had severe hip dysplasia. So Ginger underwent a special surgery for puppies called a Triple Pelvic Osteotomy or TPO on her right hip. We were relieved to find out her surgery went well and get her home, naive to challenges ahead of us.
Ginger’s Hip Surgery Recovery was Very Challenging
We were instructed to use a towel to support her surgically repaired hip anytime she needed to walk, including out to go potty.
Once the sedation wore off, we could tell she already felt much better and was raring to go! Each day without any exercise, Ginger’s energy level grew exponentially, and she wanted to play with Wilson so badly. She was excited every time she went outside and was hard to control.
Going up and down stairs was especially challenging. Frequently off balance, we were concerned about Ginger’s safety as well as our own.

Nevertheless, she recovered and was a happy dog again. She enjoyed playing with Wilson, hiking, swimming and all activities dogs love. It was so great to see them playing again.
A couple of years later Ginger started occasionally limping on her “good” leg after playing hard, but would be fine after a few days.
Over time, she started limping more often and seemed to worsen after weeks of inactivity.
Ginger Requires Another Orthopedic Surgery
We went back to the hospital to see the orthopedic specialist assuming her other hip or a torn ACL (CCL in dogs) was the problem. We were surprised when she was diagnosed with a luxating patella (more common in small dogs) on her back left knee and surgery was performed once again.
After surgery a sling was provided, which was better than a towel; however, we were still unable to control Ginger. She was much bigger and stronger than after her first surgery. Her front legs were powerful and she frequently wanted to run and jump, or dash down the stairs.

It was difficult to give her adequate support and restraint during her recovery, however, this being our second time through surgery, we were determined to make it easier on all of us.
We decided we needed a way to connect the support sling to her collar, preventing her from darting ahead, giving us the control and confidence for a safe recovery.

Great product…once I eventually got it.
Our male dog suffered a major back injury and we needed a sling/harness to help him walk and go to the bathroom. I researched A LOT of slings online and on Amazon…and while some seemed fine and basic, they didn’t seem to offer much help in both supporting his back legs AND helping me control his pace/direction to avoid further injury. I finally found the Gingerlead support harness, which has both a sling to support his back end as well as leash attachment to give more control. I placed the order, which had two day shipping, and then got a helpful message from the makers of the product offering tips about the harness. But the order didn’t arrive after two days…nor three…nor four or five. And all the tracking said was “delayed in transit”…and that I could cancel the order if I didn’t receive it by a certain day. The trouble is I needed it ASAP, and had depended on it arriving on time. I contacted the seller, but they told me that when their product is shipped via Amazon (rather than from their own website), they apologized but said they had no information about the shipment nor had any control. When the time came to cancel the order, I did — and then decided to try ordering it again (I was offered one day shipping this time). Fortunately, the re-ordered harness finally arrived and it’s working out great. It’s pretty easy to adjust, not that hard to put on my dog, and it’s helped us immensely. So in terms of the actual product, it’s great and I highly recommend. BUT over the past 6 months or so, Amazon’s been dropping the ball a lot in terms of shipping times — I’ve placed several orders that have been delayed at least two or three days past the advertised delivery date, and two (including this time) that never arrived at all. When you need a product like this fast to care for an ailing animal, this just isn’t acceptable. Amazon’s an amazing marketplace that allows you to buy tons of things that you can’t find in you local stores. But if you can’t deliver it in the specified timeframe, don’t say that you can and then leave your customers hanging.UPDATE: Can’t recommend this product enough. We’ve been using it for almost three week and it’s absolutely perfect for our injured dog. There are times when our male dog urinates onto the pad because the sling doesn’t stay in perfect alignment all the time (it’s no fault of the product; it’s just that it can slip as he moves around to find the perfect “pee” spot), the harness washes and dries (in the dryer on low/medium) like a dream. Thank you Gingerlead — you have saved our life, made our dog secure, and helped us in a difficult time.

So glad I found this!!!
I have a senior, 16-year old dog without use of his back legs. For the last 2 years, we have been using a Help Em Up Harness, which has been a lifesaver for us. However, the back straps of that harness recently cut into a small fatty tumor on one of his back legs (not the fault of the harness, just bad positioning of the tumor location right near the crease of the back leg where the straps go), which meant we could no longer use the back of that harness. If you have ever had a dog with pretty much no use of their back legs (or none at all), you know you really need something that will stay in the right spot (to avoid their back end just slipping out of the sling). I tried using other slings I had, which did help, but the positioning slipped and because there was no way to attach them to his front harness, it made moving him around (especially up or down stairs) extremely difficult. After doing a ton of research, I finally came across this harness, and I am so glad I did!!! What I love:*It attaches to the front of my dog’s Help Em Up harness easily, allowing the 2 pieces to work together, stay together, and makes moving him and stairs SO much easier. He can go downstairs with me just supporting the Gingerlead on his back end, since the 2 harnesses can easily attach. I personally would not use this with just a collar as shown, as I feel there would be some risk of choking the dog, unless your dog really just needs very light support in the back and is fully holding themselves up quite strongly in the front, and if you are only using this to assist while walking. I would not use a regular collar to lift the dog with this, do stairs, etc., or if your dog has pretty severe mobility issues in the hind end. I would recommend using a front harness with it that has a clip on the back and does not pull on the dog’s neck at all (I still love the Help Em Up for that reason…so the front part still works with this!). The fact that these attach and don’t slip around means easier car transport if needed as well. No idea how I would even fathom getting my dog in the car without Gingerlead and his front harness. Just such a great feature!*No straps under the back legs. This was something I needed and just could not find anywhere. I needed something that wrapped around my dog like a sling, so I could slide it under him to attach it, but did not need to go around his back legs, or cause any irritation from wearing it around that area 24/7. This allowed me to still support his back end in comfort, without disturbing his injury. Every other harness I looked at either had straps or you had to somehow get their legs through it, which is not an option for all dogs, especially those with severe mobility issues. Gingerlead recognized this need! It combines the ease-of-use of a sling with the features of a harness.*The back/outside of the harness is a bit slippery, which is exactly what I wanted. I need to be able to easily slide this under my dog while he is laying down to position it and lift him. I can’t do that with a fabric backing or back that does not slide easily. Even over his blankets and pee pads, I can get this under him (handles are a bit bulky when doing this, but it still works).*The harness is machine washable! I also love that you can dry it in the dryer, but I typically just lay it flat or put it outside and it dries in no time! Most slings you cannot even machine dry at all, so this is a plus!*Comfortable, adjustable straps. It’s very well-padded in the handle area. A bit bulky when trying to slide under the dog, but worth it for when you have to move the dog or transport up or down stairs (your hands will thank you). It feels secure and comfy. Adjustable for however you intend to use it and your height/dog’s height.*Sizing is just right. Please watch the sizing videos! I felt like the size I was ordering was too small, but I followed the measurements they talked about in the video from the front of the hip to the bottom of the rib cage, which suprisingly was smaller than I thought it would be. When I got the harness, it fit perfectly, just in the right spot, which also helps reduce pressure on the chest and keeps it in place while in use. They put a lot of time into the videos to help you get the right fit, so just trust the info they give you.Overall, I could not be happier with this. I was honestly panicking when I realized I could no longer use the back end of my dog’s Help Em Up and nothing I was finding online (I looked everywhere) seemed like it would work. I had no idea how I was going to get my dog up/down stairs, move him around during the day, etc. I saw this and prayed that it would work the way it showed it to work, and it delivered. Thank you, Gingerlead!!!!

I have an 11 year old tripawd Boxer, who had his left hind leg amputated back in March this year due to osteosarcoma. He had been doing brilliant on 3 legs up until recently when he seemed to have a respiratory infection and seemed to tire more regularly. After a few visits to the vet, 2 different types of antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and an x-ray, it was discovered that the cancer has metastasized to his right lung, where he has a tumor. His breathing has now improved, but he now requires help sometimes (not all the time) to get up from laying down and when he goes out of the door with the step. I have found the Gingerlead to be a godsend in helping him up, and out over the step (He steps out with his front legs, but I lift his rear end over the step, which helps to take the pressure off his front legs and prevents him from trying to hop/jump over the step. He has accepted the Gingerlead very well, because when he first had his leg amputated he did not like to be ‘helped’ and preferred to get on with it himself. He seems to appreciate the help now though. Once he is out of the door and on ‘solid ground’ I take the Gingerlead off and allow him to potter in the garden and only use it if I think that he is struggling. In the house he gets about ok, except for the odd assistance in getting up. I am really glad that I had the Gingerlead, as it does make his and my life a lot easier if help is required. I would highly recommend it to anyone who has a dog that needs mobility help.
