Handled 4 miles deep snow backcountry
Iâve tried a lot of dog boots. Have several pair of the Ruffwear brand. I look for tall boots with double Velcro closures. Iâve lost too many boots in deep snow. These boots have 3 methods to stay on. The fabric is supple and doesnât get stiff in the cold (another problem with so many boots). The draw cords at the top help keep snow out of the boot. The interior is fleece, something the Ruffwear boots donât have. Our standard poodle post-hold through deep snow during our 2hr ski tour and the boots stayed on. I cinched the lower Velcro a little looser so it wasnât irritating for the dog while he ran. The rubber bottom doesnât have a technical tread, but the rubber stays supple in the cold and has a tread that appears to grip the snow. Our standard poodle usually stops during hikes and licks and chews at his boots. He seemed to tolerate these boots very well.

Straps interfere with joints
My pup is a service dog for PTSD so we are both accustomed with boots, pads and paw wax for protection from various city terrains. These boots fit perfectly width wise but the straps are place much too low and donât allow flexibility in my dogâs feet. The security strap comes between his dew claw and wrist when it should be above or not at all. That aside, the fabric is nice on the outside and very soft and warm inside. Toes are reinforced much like a sneaker and the pads (which I really like) are padded and very slip resistant. Pup is a foxhound mix and has narrow long feet for running. I plan on attempting to alter these boots to fit Pup better. We will see what happens. Three stars for bad strap placement and not conforming to left/right and front and back paws. They are different just like human hands and feet. Dog shoes should follow suit.

Issues with fit and waterproofing
The snow is melting, and I wanted some boots to protect my dog’s paws from the nasty road chemicals that remain in the puddles. I chose these booties because they promised to be waterproof; I liked the texture of the tread on the bottom; and the price was right.The instructions for measuring the paws were super easy to follow. Only the width was required, so I thought the boots must be flexible enough to bend to accommodate a foot of any length. When I tried the boots on my dog, I realized that this is not the case. My dog’s front feet are longer than his back feet (true of most dogs), and while the width is perfect, the front boots are too short in length for his foot. The stiff bottom velcro strap lands right where the boot needs to bend. The only way it doesn’t cram his toes is if the velcro band is on the ground, gathering debris. The back ones fit better, with the velcro band on the leg, not the foot bottom.These boots will be waterproof enough for light rain on a sidewalk, but they’re not for puddles. The bottom (which is similar to a dipped gardening glove) and the shallow vinyl upper are waterproof, but the fabric is not. The water leaks through and soaks the soft, fuzzy lining.On the plus side, the boots are kind of cute. My first impression of the iridescent fabric was that it looked like it belonged in a 1970s disco, but on the snow it looked really good! The boots are well-sewn, and look like they would be fairly durable.

Most importantly, great protection on the elements on those delicate paws. Stays on securely. They donât unfairly easily, obviously your dogâs cooperation will have a lot to do with that.
