Over 20 Years Later, and I still absolutely ADORE the Halti!!!
I don’t get why this product has such a high return rate, unless people may have gotten the wrong measurements for their doggo. But oh my goodness, it’s still as amazing as when we were first introduced to it in 2001!Back then, we had a 100 lbs Labrador mix who was crossed with all kinds of ornery, and even after obedience classes and all kinds of training, he would pull so hard he’d regularly yank me down to the ground, break free from my grip, and take off for adventures around our neighborhood (namely running to the nearby cow pasture to roll in cow patties. Which really stunk. Washing cow poo out of dog fur outside on a cold autumn afternoon is not fun, would not recommend).I’m not exaggerating at all when I say the halti collar saved my dog from being dropped off at the shelter, because my parents were just about fed up with the stubborn boy. But then our vet recommended trying the halti collar. And man, was it a game changer! All of a sudden, we could easily walk him! There was no more tugging, pulling, or knocking us to the ground. We could actually get him to heel. And, with positive reinforcement, he grew to love it, even running up to us to put his muzzle inside the halti because he knew it meant we were going out on another delightful walk! And here I am now, over 20 years later, finally ordering my second halti collar as my last one sadly bit the dust, and it’s just as good as all those years ago! My Caucasian Shepherd/Pyrenees cross is doing great with it, and I’m so grateful to be able to be able to experience the wonderful joy of using a halti with a large dog all over again! I love how they’ve improved the design, with extra padding in the halter around the nose area, as well as the fabulous added safety strap to help prevent the halter from slipping off the muzzle! It also has added reflective material which my old one did not have. And, after just a couple of positive training sessions, I’m already noticing a difference in his tugging, and I’m controlling him with a lot more ease.If you have a big dog or a hard to manage dog to walk, I absolutely encourage you to get the halti! It has been a favorite dog walking collar of mine for over 2 decades, and I plan on continuing to use it in the years to come. Definitely recommend!

WORKS EXCELLENT, COMFORTABLE, AND COMMUNICATES SAFETY TO THOSE WHO HAVE A K9 PHOBIA.
Excellent, correct sizing is represented. Comfortable. Color works great. THE ADVANTAGE as we travel Internationally is people who are afraid of dogs think this is a muzzle and will protect them. Helpful in this regard for public access and when in the EU nations where mass transit requires a muzzle this meets the requirements.

    Immediate results for reactive dog
*****1 week update*****TLDR; 6YR old rescue dog goes from being an animal-aggressive/fearful/reactive dog to a being a better citizen I can walk around the neighborhood with the Halti headcollar as a training tool.My original review was more product related and discussed pulling. Had to update because it’s more incredible than I realized. My boy would either lunge aggressively, flip out in panic, or scurry away and pull hard when he would spot another animal on a walk. It has been a scary 9 months where I have often feared and dreaded taking him out because he is big and has attacked others (thankfully not too severely because I have good reflexes). He is usually good with basic obedience commands but would go into a blind rage or panic thrash and become impossible. I did a couple of weeks of giving him kibble as soon as he laid eyes on another dog. It helped a bit, but wasn’t perfect because he wouldn’t take the treats gently when in a tizzy. Then I got this Halti.I spent a few days correcting him for his bad attitude (tight leash, quick tug, and stern vocal correction AS SOON as he looks at another dog funny, or his posture gets stiff, or he goes into hunt mode — shut that down, which wasn’t possible with normal leash/collar corrections.) Successfully walk away for a few yards? Sit, “good boy”, treat, keep going. He fought the Halti the first couple of times that he wanted to flip out, but soon realized it was a fight he would lose. Consistent and immediate corrections all week… started giving him treats and “good boys” for being more calm about walking away from dogs the next couple of days. It’s amazing. I’m still careful and keep him a few yards away from other animals, but we went to the local park today at dog walk o’clock and he was amazing, I didn’t even bother with treats. He’s definitely getting it now: that 1) I do NOT want him to react or fixate. 2) He’s not going to win fighting the Halti. 3) the other dogs are not all out to get us. 4) walk away from another reactive dog? Extra praise and good boy kibbles for being the bigger dog! (He’s overweight so he can’t always get treats, but I sit him down and give him affection instead sometimes, then keep walking.) He saw many dogs at the park today and did not lunge at, bark at, or whine and pull from a single one. He was a little weary of a couple but didn’t freak out at all, just kept glancing at them cautiously but walked away knowing what was good for him.Anyway: 5 stars. We can live in peace now. I hope if you’re a reactive dog owner who has come home in tears of frustration, that you will give this a try for your dog and believe in their best self (also beckman’s dog training on youtube – very helpful if you’re not sure where to start.)*****My 64lb border heeler is wearing a size 2 (he’s overweight) and generally is not trash on a leash. At a distance of a few feet ahead of me, he usually won’t pull AS badly as some other dogs I’ve had (unless he sees a cat/squirrel/dog, then he goes NUTS), but if I tried to get him to walk next to me or focus on me and find me, no luck. Just got it yesterday, that video our first walk with the headcollar and double ended leash (that I’m not sure I’m using right frankly). I used treats when putting it on. I pulled him away easily (you pull – dog listens – and gentle motions do just fine, no need to be harsh at all) or distracted him with treats when he tried to take it off mid-walk a few times. He’s annoyed that it works. I love that it works. Seriously, I’m barely holding the leash and he is not pulling, so I’m amazed. I stop, he stops. We’re turning together 😭.Seems comfortable enough and build seems good, too. Size 2 is perfect according to the Halti size recommendations for a cattle dog, but I did measure him just in case since he’s a mix. I’m hopeful that, along with the treat conditioning I’m doing with him when he sees animals on walks, it’ll help his reactivity and make walking him less stressful.

With the Halti Headcollar, I experienced a newfound sense of control during our walks, as the pulling was significantly reduced. This not only made our walks more enjoyable but also contributed to the overall safety and well-being of my furry friend. What sets the Halti Headcollar apart from other headcollars I’ve tried is its focus on both functionality and comfort. Despite its effectiveness, the headcollar is remarkably soft and comfortable for my dog. The high-quality materials and thoughtful design ensure that it doesn’t cause any discomfort or irritation. My Lab happily wears the headcollar without any resistance, making our walks a much more pleasant experience for both of us.Furthermore, the Halti Headcollar’s adjustable straps allow for a customized fit, ensuring maximum comfort and effectiveness.
