Works great!
I have 2 senior dogs who have teeth that arenât in the best shape. They both have health issues that prevent them from under going anesthesia for a teeth cleaning. A friend told me about this product, and itâs really made a difference! Their teeth have stopped deteriorating, and they actually look a little bit better. The most remarkable change is their horrible breath doesnât stink at all since Iâve been putting this product in their water every day. They havenât had any illness or negative side effects at all. My Shih Tzu puppy has also been on it since he was 6 months old, and also hasnât had any ill effects. My only issue is the cost is quite high, but itâs worth it! I highly recommend it!!

AMAZING
I have a 5-year-old Westie who has severe periodontal disease. She had her first cleaning last year at 4. I brush DAILY and struggle to keep her tartar at bay. I used this product for 3 weeks, and the tarter dissolved!!! We are using it daily now as her breathing is so much better, and we are thrilled with the results. As a dental hygienist, I can say this product actually WORKS!

Don’t bother with the kit
Just buy the powder product. I can’t give an accurate review on the powder itself because it has only been a couple weeks and I have not noticed any changes with my dog but I did want to let folks know not to bother buying the kit because the jar is overkill for me. The amount of powder that comes in the 30 serving packet is so small It doesn’t even cover the bottom of the jar. Unless you are purchasing 15+ packages, just buy a tiny makeup container from the $ store and use the very tip of a tsp for measurement because all you need is barely the size of a pencil eraser. There is no where to store the itsy bitsy spoon other than in the jar ( I taped mine to the lid) because it is difficult to get my fingers in the jar to fish out the spoon and every time I reach in I add moisture to the powder. I have also thought about just putting it in a small spice container with a lid. Time will tell if the powder actually helps.

Gave my dog soft stool
It was easy enough to use, but unfortunately gave my dog soft, mushy stool. After a week of giving it to her and her stool not getting any firmer, I discontinued use and her stool returned to normal. Not sure why she had this reaction, but she was fine otherwise. It didnt improve her breath over that week; wasnt used long enough to see any improvement on her teeth.

time will tell
Like the fact that it is safe compared to other additives on the market.

I’m so happy this product exists!
For many pet owners, brushing our dogs’ teeth is impractical. Water additives that reduce plaque, freshen breath, and prevent cavities sound like the perfect solution! However, the additives that actually work contain antibacterials/antiseptics which kill beneficial bacteria in dogs’ mouths as well as in their guts. This is a big deal! Much research indicates that the diversity and health of microbes within humans’ guts has profound implications on our short-term and long-term health outcomes, and there’s no reason to believe it’s different for dogs. (When we previously purchased one of these water additives, I was sure to buy one that was âVOHC-approved.â Only later did I consider that the VOHCâs focus is on oral health alone and that it certainly did not perform any research into the long-term effects of products bearing its approval on dogsâ entire bodies.)Killing beneficial oral bacteria is a bad thing, too. For example, destroying these bacteria in humans suppresses our body’s primary source of nitric oxide, which is critical for heart health! Really, Google it. I’ve stopped using antiseptic mouthwash for this reason. But we humans can at least spit out mouthwash after using it. Dogs swallow theirs, so the damage is not limited to the oral flora.Given the oral care alternatives, I was truly excited when I discovered TEEF for Life and their claims of providing a solution that improves dogs’ teeth and breath while promoting healthy bacteria rather than killing it. Iâm even happier to report that it works! Weâve been giving Protektin42 to our 3-year old pitbull/chow mix for about 45 days. She gladly drinks the water (no difference vs. untreated water), and her breath is seriously pleasant now, while her substantial plaque build-up is almost entirely gone. (I wish I had taken a âbeforeâ photo, but youâll just have to trust me on this.) Iâm about to order another six monthsâ worth and expect Iâll be using this product for the rest of our girlâs life. I donât write Amazon reviews very often, but Iâm genuinely thrilled for my dogâs health and the health of all dogs that thereâs a great alternative to regularly brushing teeth!

Easy, big improvement
This has really helped my dogsâ teeth! I put it in their water daily. Not perfect – back teeth still need some work after several months use, and I also brush them every night. Still, continuing to improve. Recommended by my breeder.

This has been life changing!
I adopted my German Shepherd when she was 6 years old and she hates having her mouth messed with in any way, trying to brush her teeth is like wrestling with an octopus! She wins every time. Her breath was awful and teeth were in definite need of cleaning. Sheâs very sensitive to anesthesia so that was a scary option and I was on a mission to find something both safe and effective. Teef fits the bill! At 10 years old her breath is now sweet, her teeth are much cleaner, and I havenât had to do an anesthesia cleaning at the vet! All I have to do is put Teef in clean water for her every day and she drinks it readily which is a relief because sheâs super picky. We are both happy!

I can speak for myself and my dog’s experience in regard to TEEF for Life Protektin42 Plant-Derived Dental Water Additive for Dogs. I liked the idea of this dental additive and was initially drawn by how it is composed of human-grade ingredients. Unfortunately, my dog developed a really bad allergic reaction not too long after consuming this dental water additive. She started pawing and scratching her mouth/face and did not sleep that night. I stopped its use immediately. It took about one to two days for her to fully recover. I would suggest using this product with caution.
